WELCOME to my 2013 catalog of bearded irises. This is my 34th year of breeding bearded irises. The 2013 season has the promise of interesting new things in the seedling patch.It will be a busy season with the Spring Convention of Region 14 of the American Iris Society with the theme "Cause for Celebration" which is also name of one of my 2011 introductions. I have been extended the honor of speaking at the banquet as well as giving some judge's training..
The most important part of the bloom season for hybridizers is the evaluation of seedlings and making more crosses. I will be looking at about 3.000 maiden bloom seedlings as well as several thousand second year seedlings that are being given a second chance. In addition there are about a thousand reselects in their make-or-break year. Selection in all age classes of seedlings will be severe this year in order make room to concentrate on fewer lines in the future. Thank to those who ordered last year as well as to the judges of the American Iris Society who voted 'Kathy Chilton' the Wister Medal.
